Dutch man charged with drug dealing via Silk Road
CHICAGO (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a Dutch man has agreed to plead guilty in Chicago to charges alleging that he sold illegal drugs for millions of dollars in bitcoins through the shuttered website Silk Road.
Prosecutors say Cornelis Jan Slomp, of Worden, the Netherlands, was charged Thursday with conspiracy to import and distribute controlled substances, including ecstasy, amphetamine and cocaine.
They say the 22-year-old Slomp was arrested in August 2013 at Miami International Airport after flying from Europe to allegedly meet with co-conspirators about spinning off his Silk Road operations.
Prosecutors say Slomp faces up to 40 years in prison, a $5 million fine and the forfeiture of $3 million. A court date hasn't been set for him to enter his plea.
