UPDATE: Dust storm closes I-74 westbound near Farmer City

May 21—5:20 p.m. update — Traffic on I-74 west has been opened at exit 159 and is now being diverted at U.S. 136 at exit 152 and being sent west to Illinois 51.

FARMER CITY — A dust storm resulting in zero visibility has closed Interstate 74 westbound near Farmer City this afternoon.

Traffic is being diverted at exit 159 onto U.S. 150.

The closer has resulted in a considerable backup, state police said.

Also, the National Weather Service has issued a blowing dust advisory until 6 p.m. for the following area counties:

— Piatt;

— Dewitt;

— Vermilion;

— McLean;

— Champaign.
