Duplin Winery raising money for Folds of Honor

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Known as the South’s oldest and largest winery, Duplin Winery has debuted a red wine to honor every veteran, active-duty, and fallen service member, and a white wine for first responders.

Frank Glidden, Duplin Winery’s assistant marketing manager, at Duplin Winery said Folds of Honor was started by Lieutenant Col. Dan Rooney back in 2007 as a way to give back to the area’s fallen, so he started a scholarship for the families of former soldiers and first responders.

“Since 2007 he has actually raised over $244 million for these scholarships, and that’s right at about $5,000 per scholarship, so they’ve done a ton of scholarships since 2007. It’s a great organization to be involved with,” Glidden said.

He said the winery wanted to be part of the effort, and found a unique way to get involved. A dollar from each sale goes to Folds of Honor to support its fundraising.

Glidden said Duplin hopes to raise $250,000, and has already contributed $31,000 over the last three weeks.

Both the wines are sweet, Glidden said.

“The white is a sweet table wine …we’ve taken our muscadine grapes and all the grapes that are white,” he said. The white has about a 10S% sugar content.

People can contribute directly to Folds of Honor by scanning a QR code on the wine’s labels.

“It’s a great organization and we’re really, really happy to be involved with them,” he said.

Both bottles of wine are $15 and you can find the link to donate here.
