No. 9 Duke won, 76-67, at Florida State on Saturday despite not having one of its starting guards available.

Due to concussion protocol, Tyrese Proctor was not cleared to travel after he appeared to hit his head on the court after falling during the Blue Devils’ 77-69 win over Wake Forest at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Monday night.

A 6-5 sophomore guard, Proctor has started 16 games for the Blue Devils this season, averaging 10 points per game. He returned to play after the first-half fall against Wake Forest but only played 11 minutes after halftime.

Proctor went scoreless against Wake Forest, missing all five of his shots from the field.

After Saturday’s game, which Duke won on the strength of freshman guard Jared McCain’s 35 points, Duke coach Jon Scheyer said Proctor has not been able to practice. He’ll need to get clearance to do that before Scheyer can think about playing him in Wednesday’s ACC game at Miami.

Proctor has played 21 games for the Blue Devils this season, starting 16 times. This is the second injury that’s kept him from playing this season. Proctor missed three December games after suffering a sprained right ankle in the early minutes of Duke’s 72-68 loss at Georgia Tech on Dec. 2.

With Proctor unavailable against Florida State, Scheyer started senior guard Jeremy Roach along with freshmen guards Caleb Foster and McCain and sophomore forwards Kyle Filipowski and Mark Mitchell.

Averaging just 9.5 turnovers per game this season, Duke turned the ball over a season-worst 17 times against Florida State without Proctor. McCain had five of them and Roach, who scored 17 points, had four.
