DUI suspected in fatal crash involving truck that hit guardrail, passing vehicle

Police in Rialto are investigating a deadly crash in which the driver of a passing vehicle was killed after a pickup truck crashed into a guardrail and then collided head-on with their vehicle.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday on the 4000 block of South Riverside Avenue.

According to the Rialto Police Department, officers responded for a report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries. Rialto officers, along with police and fire crews from Colton, found Gregory McDonald, 57, of Moreno Valley, inside his Toyota Echo suffering from life-threatening injuries.

McDonald was pronounced dead at the scene by Colton Fire Department paramedics shortly after.

The other vehicle was identified as a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by 27-year-old Marcus Fiorillo of Banning. Fiorillo was uninjured in the crash.

Investigators have determined that Fiorillo was traveling north on Riverside Avenue when his vehicle collided with the east guardrail and then swerved into oncoming traffic. The pickup then collided head-on with the compact sedan driven by McDonald.

The investigation is ongoing, but police say there is “evidence Fiorillo was under the influence of alcohol when the collision occurred.”

Fiorillo was arrested at the scene and booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

On Monday, he appeared in a San Bernardino County courtroom and was charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, jail records show. He remains in custody at this time and is being held without bail.
