DU meets with pro-Palestinian protesters as encampment continues

DENVER (KDVR) — Pro-Palestinian protesters met with University of Denver school officials for three and a half hours on Wednesday, organizers said, with the meeting coming a day after the university gave them an ultimatum to clear out.

A spokesperson for the school also confirmed the meeting took place. A spokesperson for the protesters says the meeting “went well.”

Protesters say their demands for the school remain in support of disclosure, divestment and declaring their ties to Israel as the country continues its war against Hamas in Gaza.

An encampment with approximately three dozen protest tents remains on the campus after nearly two weeks.

DU Chancellor Jeremy Haefner said Tuesday that the move to clear the encampment came as university leaders have “become increasingly concerned about the safety of our campus community,” including for those in the protest encampment.

DU graduation is set for June 14-15.
