Drunk Florida man beaten up, arrested after making fun of Disney guest with Down syndrome: affidavit

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man’s trip to Walt Disney World ended with him behind bars after he sparked an argument with four guests at a resort bar after he allegedly made fun of a woman with Down syndrome.

Brent George, 61, was arrested and charged with four counts of battery after the incident unfolded at the Belle Vue Lounge, a small bar area inside Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, on Jan. 25.

According to an arrest affidavit from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, George had become intoxicated after having three shots of bourbon and a beer at the bar when he allegedly made his way over to a table of four guests.

The 61-year-old told authorities that he’d gone over to the guest’s table but didn’t remember anything specific “due to being intoxicated.” He told deputies that he was having a “good time” with the four guests until he was “attacked by them.”

According to the affidavit, George allegedly started to make fun of one of the guest’s daughters, who has Down syndrome, by “imitating the grunts that she occasionally made.”

The woman’s mother confronted George and asked him if he was making fun of her daughter. George then stood up and allegedly shoved the mother twice. The 61-year-old then slapped another guest at the table across the face when she tried to intervene.

After the woman was slapped, her husband got involved, and George allegedly punched him in the neck. The woman’s husband retaliated and punched George in the head, the affidavit said.

At that point, deputies said a bystander grabbed George and removed him from the scene.

The 61-year-old was arrested and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was evaluated for his injuries sustained from being punched. George was cleared and booked into the Orange County Jail.
