Drone strike on oil depot in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblasts causes Lukoil to suspend operations

A drone targeted the Lukoil oil depot in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, sparking a fire shortly after crashing on the premises around 4:30 a.m. MSK, Russian Telegram channel Baza reported on March 12.

Initial reports suggest there are no casualties.

Emergency services are on the scene with a firefighting team deployed.

Governor Gleb Nikitin confirmed drone strikes on an oil refinery in Kstovo city in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast at 5:41 a.m. MSK

"This morning, the Kstovo industrial area, a part of the fuel and energy complex, was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles," Nikitin wrote on Telegram.

The attack resulted in a fire at one of the oil processing units, but no casualties were reported, according to preliminary information, he added.

The attack on the Nizhny Novgorod oil refinery, one of Russia's largest oil processing facilities, prompted Lukoil to suspend operations at the plant.

Drone attacks were reported in six Russian oblasts overnight, with Moscow and Oryol among the locations targeted.

An oil depot also caught fire after the drone strike in Oryol.
