Droid X2 owners get needed Android 2.3 update
We’re not sure why the Droid X2 doesn’t already run on Android 2.3, but Motorola is now correcting the problem. Droid-Life reports that the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update is now available to every Droid X2 owner on Verizon. To get the update immediately, head to the Settings menu, then “About phone,” then “System updates.”
Judging from the difference we’ve seen between the Gingerbread-powered Droid 3 and the Droid X2 (review), which launched with Android 2.2 (Froyo), users should be excited for the upgrade. The Droid 3 runs much faster than the X2 on 2.2 does even though the two devices have largely similar dual-core processors and specs. Motorola’s NinjaBlur interface is also much snappier and flashier with the new upgrade. Changing homescreens now has a 3D effect to it, much like Android Honeycomb and HTC’s first few Gingerbread phones (ex: HTC Sensation 4G). In addition, window and app opening have better transitions and when you turn the screen off, it shuts down like a classic television: a cool effect.
With that said, those hoping for big updates that bring NinjaBlur in line with HTC Sense or Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 will leave disappointed. The Android 2.3 update should significantly speed up your Droid X2 and improve the battery life, but don’t expect much else.
