What’s Driving You Crazy? – A follow-up to a viewer email about left turns around a barrier meant to stop them

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) – The Nevada Dept of Transportation didn’t waste any time responding to Monday’s viewer email about drivers making left turns around a barrier meant to prevent them.

After Alan sent video of eastbound drivers on State Route 160 swerving around a barrier as a shortcut to State Highway 159, NDOT’s Justin Hopkins wrote in:

“It’s disappointing that drivers would choose to make a dangerous, illegal turn just to save a few seconds. It’s important to note that the issue is [now] enforcement rather than engineering. We can improve safety with lane configurations, [but] addressing drivers who disregard traffic laws falls under the jurisdiction of law enforcement.”

Thanks to Justin and NDOT for the quick response.

Viewer Alan also wrote back to say that preparations for the bicycling event that was eventually canceled by high wind this past weekend included orange cones down the middle of State Hwy 160, which stopped some drivers from making that unsafe turn.

Buckle up, drive carefully – and, please put down that phone! When you write in to join the “Driving You Crazy” conversation, photos and video help tell your story, but not taken while you’re driving!
