Drivers rescued via helicopter after their Jeeps get stuck in Northern California creek

(FOX40.COM) — An attempt to cross a waterway in personal vehicles turned into a helicopter rescue for two Jeep drivers in Tehama County earlier this week.

The California Highway Patrol said one of its helicopter crews responded to a call near Corning, about 120 miles north of Sacramento, regarding two drivers stranded atop their vehicles in Thomes Creek.

The CHP said the drivers were attempting to cross the creek and were not able to reach the shore.

Pictures shared by the agency show two Jeeps with water almost up to the windows and two individuals atop one of them. In the distance, a group of emergency personnel is on the shore.

The CHP crew, along with Tehama County Fire and CAL FIRE used a helicopter hoist to get both drivers to the shore.

The CHP did not specify what happened with the vehicles but advised people that creek and river flows can change unexpectedly and must be approached with caution.
