Driver from Toledo dies after crash in Bedford Township

BEDFORD TWP. — A Toledo man died Thursday after a one-car crash in Bedford Township.

Robert A. Pfleger, 70, died at ProMedica Toledo Hospital shortly after being transported from the scene of the crash northwest of the intersection of Whiteford Center Road and Hill Road, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported.

The crash was reported at 1:09 p.m. Thursday, according to a news release. Preliminary investigation showed Pfleger was driving a black 2022 Chevrolet Malibu and exiting from a private driveway on the west side of Whiteford Center Road. As Pfleger entered the roadway, he drove directly across the road to the east, for an unknown reason, and went into the east side ditch, where his vehicle came to rest.

It's unknown if Pfleger was wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash, as he was attempting to exit his vehicle when first responders arrived, the release said. There was no airbag deployment in the car.

Speed and alcohol are not factors in the crash, the release said.
