Driver suffers major injuries in rollover collision south of Planada, CHP says

A woman was transported to the hospital with major injuries Wednesday, following a rollover collision in Merced County, just south of Planada, California Highway Patrol reported.

At about 11:45 a.m. officers responded the solo-vehicle rollover crash on Le Grand Road, east of Plainsburg Road, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Zuniga.

Zuniga said Yesenia Zaragoza, 24, of Le Grand, was driving eastbound on Le Grand Road, east of Plainsburg Road at a high rate of speed in a 2009 Toyota Camry. For unknown reasons, Zaragoza lost control of the vehicle, which traveled onto the north shoulder of Le Grand Road overturning multiple times.

Zaragoza suffered sever injuries to her hand and arm in the collision, and was transported by ambulance to Doctor’s Medical Center for treatment.

Authorities said the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation and speed does appear to be a factor, according to the CHP.

“Please wear seat belts,” said Zuniga, who also advises motorists to watch their speed and to be patient while traveling through constriction zones.
