Driver suffering medical emergency crashes in Poway

POWAY, Calif. — A driver was critically injured Friday after crashing in Poway due to a medical emergency, authorities said.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to investigate a single-vehicle collision in the intersection of Tierra Bonita Road and Twin Peaks Road around 6:30 a.m.

It was determined that a 68-year-old woman was driving a 1994 Acura Legend westbound on Twin Peaks Road when she suffered an unknown medical emergency, SDSO explained. This caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and collide with a traffic signal at the intersection.

Authorities said the woman suffered major injuries during the incident. She was transported to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for further medical treatment. 

Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in this collision.
