Driver strikes tree, dies in fiery car wreck Wednesday on Highway 71 in Kansas City

Kansas City police are investigating a car accident that happened Wednesday morning when a vehicle crashed into a tree, bursting into flames.

At about 10:18 a.m., Kansas City firefighters first responded to the single vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 71 south of 63rd, according to the Kansas City Fire Department.

When the fire crews arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle on fire that had struck a tree, an official said.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, the fire department said.

Kansas City police are investigating the incident, according to Chief Michael Hopkins.
