Driver possibly drunk when 1-year-old critically injured in Brooklyn crash: sources

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A driver involved in a Brooklyn crash that critically injured a 1-year-old baby Monday evening was possibly drunk, sources told PIX11 News.

Natalie Leonard, 28, was driving a Honda Accord with a 21-year-old woman and the child sitting in the passenger seat when she blew through a red light on Mother Gaston Boulevard around 7 p.m., sources said. She then collided with an Acura TLX driven by a 38-year-old woman headed east on Dumont Avenue, according to sources.

The 1-year-old was hospitalized with a skull fracture, according to authorities. The passenger who held the child on her lap was also taken to the hospital, along with both drivers, police said.

Both drivers were later taken into custody, according to authorities. Leonard was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, acting in a manner injurious to a child, driving while intoxicated, and reckless driving, among other violations.

Leisel Renaud, the driver of the Acura TLX, was charged with driving with a suspended license, according to authorities.
