Driver killed on Gandy Boulevard after hitting Selmon Expressway pylon

Tampa police are investigating a crash Monday that killed a driver when their vehicle struck a pylon attached to the Selmon Expressway.

The cause of the crash is still unknown, the Tampa Police Department wrote in a news release Monday morning.

About 1 a.m. Monday, Tampa police officers responded to the scene at Gandy Boulevard and Bridge Street. Officers closed the inside lanes of east and west Gandy Boulevard. All lanes reopened after 5 a.m.

Police have not released the name of the driver.

The crash occurred less than two days after a Tampa man was killed in a motorcycle crash on the Pinellas County side of Gandy Boulevard Saturday.
