Driver freed by firefighters after colliding with school bus near Spring Grove
A driver was taken to the hospital after being freed from a car by firefighters in a crash involving an empty school bus and a convertible, officials said.
Firefighters were called to the scene of the crash on the 5400 block of Lehman Road in North Codorus Township around 6:38 a.m. Friday morning, May 17, according to York 911 records.
When they arrived, they found the driver of a convertible Mazda Miata trapped in the vehicle that had collided with a school bus, according to North Codorus Township Fire Company assistant chief Marvin Stine.
Stine said that firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to pop the door open on the Miata, quickly freeing the driver.
The injured driver of the Miata was then taken in an ambulance to York Hospital, Stine said.
No children were on the school bus, which was on its way to pick up children for the school day, Stine said. The driver of the school bus, operated by the Spring Grove Area School District, was not hurt.
Northern York County Regional Police are investigating the crash.
