Driver ejected in fatal Highway 99 rollover with toddler in vehicle

May 20—The California Highway Patrol said a 28-year-old Antioch man was killed early Monday morning after a rollover crash on State Route 99 south of Richland Road in the Yuba City area.

According to officials, the CHP was notified of the crash, which also involved a 3-year-old child, at about 2:07 a.m. on Monday. It was reported that a lone vehicle had rolled over on Highway 99 south of Richland Road and near Lincoln Road.

When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they located the Antioch man, who was reportedly the driver of the silver 2011 Acura RDX involved in the incident. Officials said the man was "ejected during the crash" and was "unresponsive." He was declared deceased at 2:15 a.m.

The CHP said a preliminary investigation indicated that the Acura was traveling north on Highway 99. Witnesses claimed that the Acura was "weaving heavily, unable to maintain its lane." When the Acura was north of the intersection of Lincoln Road, it reportedly "entered the paved center divide and sharply turned to the right."

Officials said the car then drove onto the right shoulder, turned sharply to the left, and then overturned.

"The driver was unrestrained and was ejected through the windshield during the rollover," officials said. "The Acura came to rest in the traffic lanes. Multiple witnesses stopped to assist until first responders arrived on scene."

Inside the vehicle were two passengers, officials said. They were identified as 28-year-old Raymond Green of Yuba City and a 3-year-old girl. As a result of the crash, Green was transported to UC Davis Medical Center with complaints of pain. The child was transported to Adventist Health/Rideout Hospital in Marysville for minor injuries.

The incident led to a closure of State Route 99 between Lincoln and Richland roads for about two hours. CHP officials said "drugs are suspected as a factor in this crash."

The name of the driver will be released once next of kin has been notified. The Sutter County Sheriff's Office said on Monday that was still pending.
