Driver dies after truck plummets off ramp in South Baltimore Thursday afternoon

The driver of a dump truck that fell off a highway ramp in South Baltimore on Thursday afternoon was declared dead at the scene.

Baltimore City Fire Department spokesperson Kevin Cartwright said firefighters responded around 2:30 p.m. to the southbound entry ramp from Interstate 95 to Baltimore-Washington Parkway (Route 295) at Monroe Street near the Carroll-Camden Industrial Area.

“It was apparent the dump truck went off the cliff,” Cartwright said.

Cartwright said he did not yet know if a crash or speeding preceded the fall and no other injuries were reported.

The exit was closed for a while after the accident.
