Driver critically injured after vehicle rear-ends tractor-trailer on I-90

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The driver of a pickup truck was critically injured after the vehicle rear-ended a tractor-trailer Monday morning on I-90 eastbound near Batavia, New York State Police announced.

Police said the crash happened around 7:30 a.m., and the driver had to be airlifted via Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Both lanes of I-90 East between Exit 48 (Route 98) and Exit 47 (I-490) were closed for almost four hours due to the crash.

A separate crash also took place Monday morning in the same area involving a rolled-over tractor-trailer hauling bags of dirt that blocked all eastbound lanes, according to police. The driver of the tractor-trailer had to be extricated and was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation into the crash involving the pickup truck remains ongoing, and more information will be released by police when it is available.
