Driver charged in wreck that sends three to hospital in Greenville

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The driver of a vehicle involved in a crash that sent three to the hospital is facing several charges.

Trooper Rico Stephens of the N.C. State Highway Patrol told WNCT’s Erin Jenkins that Monterry Demetrius, 44, of Greenville, was charged with reckless driving, driving with a revoked license and child abuse after a crash Saturday night at the intersection of B’s BBQ Road and the Speedway/Walmart.

Troopers and Greenville police responded at 7:30 p.m. to the site of the crash. An investigation revealed that Demetrius was traveling west on Statonsburg Road heading toward NC 587.

Officials said he ran a red light and T-boned another vehicle. Power lines were knocked down and traffic was diverted from the area until the cleanup and investigation were complete.

Three people in the vehicle that was struck were sent to ECU Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. A child in the vehicle Demetrius was driving was treated and released at the scene.

The road was reopened around 8:50 p.m. on Saturday.
