Driver caught going 103 in 45 mph zone in Douglas County: DCSO

DENVER (KDVR) — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers to follow the speed limit after several drivers were caught exceeding the posted limit by 20 mph or more within an hour Saturday.

One of those drivers was going 58 mph over the speed limit, according to the sheriff’s office.

Saturday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day due to soggy conditions in the Denver weather forecast and snow in the mountains.

The sheriff’s office said one deputy stopped four drivers who were driving at least 20 mph over the speed limit within one hour. DCSO said Deputy Vincent was “not tolerating this kind of reckless driving, especially in adverse weather conditions.”

One driver was traveling at 103 mph where the posted limit was 45 mph, DCSO said.

The driver seemed surprised, according to DCSO, and said the vehicle was new to him. He was still getting used to the “regenerative braking,” and said the brake pedal was stiff, according to the sheriff’s office.

“We’re still unsure how that impacts the accelerator pedal being pinned to the floor,” DCSO posted on X.

He was given a mandatory court date for his “criminal speed,” DCSO said.

According to the sheriff’s office, 40 mph or more over the posted speed limit carries 12 points assessed against his license if convicted. Additionally, the deputy cited him for careless driving due to the weather conditions, possibly adding another 4 points.

Other drivers were clocked going 69 and 72 mph in the 45 mph zone, according to DCSO.
