A man who drove off an elevated road and nearly plunged to his death was saved after quick thinking saw him step on the brake pedal for nearly an hour.

The man’s car was hanging on by just its front wheels, which he locked in place by slamming his foot on the brake.

The unnamed driver was on his way to work in East China’s Zhejiang Province when he swerved to avoid another vehicle and skidded, ploughing backwards through a wall and down the side of the road.

A rescue crew was dispatched and arrived when he had been hanging for around 45 minutes.

The man was finally relieved when firefighters secured his car with ropes tied to a tree, which allowed him to climb out from the driver’s seat.

The vehicle was later towed up after the driver was taken to hospital where he was deemed to be in a stable condition after the terrifying ordeal.
