Driver arrested for DUI after ramming into Richfield school bus, causing injuries

RICHFIELD, Utah (ABC4) — One person has been arrested after allegedly crashing into a school bus full of children while driving under the influence, causing injuries.

Just before 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, the Richfield City Police Department said they responded to an accident involving a school bus at the intersection of 600 E and 100 N.

The school bus, carrying children, was traveling northbound when a minivan ran through a yield sign and collided with the back end of the bus, resulting in injuries, police said.

The driver of the van fled the scene but was located by Richfield police approximately 20 minutes later.

The driver was arrested for DUI, leaving the scene of the accident, failure to yield, revoked registration, expired registration, driving on suspension, lack of insurance, possession of an open container, and reckless endangerment (x14).

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
