Drive-by shooting in Wilmington leaves woman with serious injuries

A woman is in serious condition after being the victim of a drive-by shooting Thursday in Wilmington.

According to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department, at 6:26 p.m. units responded to a shots fired call at the 4200 block of Lake Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a 54-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

She had been walking on the sidewalk when a vehicle approached, slowed down, and began firing, according to the release. She was taken to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center by EMS.

Wilmington police are searching for the suspect vehicle, a white four-door sedan with front end damage. Anyone with information is asked to submit a tip via Tip 411 or call Wilmington police at 910-343-3609.
