Drew Brees has made a case for being top QB of this generation

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees made history on Sunday in the team’s thrilling 41-38 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

Ask anyone in the world who the best quarterback of this generation is, and most will say Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. Many will say Aaron Rodgers as well. But people always compare a player by his team success and not the player success. Brees is better than Brady in all-time passing yards and touchdowns. This is without having Rob Gronkowski, Randy Moss or a football legend head coach in Bill Belichick.

With all due respect to Sean Payton, not he nor any other NFL coach besides Belichick of the past 20 years have consistently made their squad a playoff team. We now see Brady is a product of Belichick. Go look up Matt Cassel in 2008 or Jimmy Garoppolo in the first two games of this season.

Who is the best player Brees has had as a receiver? Marques Colston. He’s not a Moss or a Gronkowski. And when has Brady put up great numbers in his career? When he’s had Moss, Wes Welker and/or Gronkowski.

Meanwhile, here’s Brees. More career touchdowns and passing yards than Brady when he’s had new receivers and tight ends come and go all the time. He put up stats with Joe Horn and Marques Colston. He put up stats with Jimmy Graham and Lance Moore. Now, he’s putting up stats with Brandin Cooks, Michael Thomas, Willie Snead and Coby Fleener.

When all is said and done in Brees’ career, he could easily break Peyton Manning’s record of most touchdowns and passing yards. But because Brees hasn’t had to cheat for four Super Bowls and hasn’t had a supporting cast like Brady (because of Belichick the mastermind,) nobody will consider Brees on Brady’s level.

What a pity. Because the stats don’t deny Brees is better than Brady.
