Many designers have stated that they will not dress the future first lady―most notably Tom Ford, who recently told ELLE.com, "Whoever is the president, or the first lady, should be wearing clothes at a price point that are accessible to most Americans, and wearing clothes made in America. My clothes are made in Italy, they're very, very expensive. I don't think most women or men in our country can relate to that, and I think the first lady or the president should represent all people." However, WWD reports that Melania Trump has found two who are willing to put her in their designs for Inauguration Day.

According to the site, Ralph Lauren and Karl Lagerfeld are both working with Trump on outfits to wear for the weekend. Ralph Lauren, one of the most iconic American designers, dressed both Hillary Clinton and Melania Trump during the 2016 election. Clinton wore Ralph Lauren for each of the debates as well as for her concession speech―a purple pantsuit that held a special significance-while Melania chose Ralph Lauren looks for one of the debates and on the night of the election. Ralph Lauren has yet to respond to our request for comment.

As for Karl Lagerfeld, WWD notes that we don't know under which of the three brands he helms―Chanel, Fendi, and his eponymous label―he might be designing for the future first lady. When asked for comment, a spokesperson for Chanel stated, "Chanel has not been contacted by the new Administration," and had no further comment on the matter. There's also no word as to which event―the swearing-in or an Inauguration Day ball―he'd be dressing her for.

One thing is for certain, however: On Friday, January 20, the future first lady of the United States will be wearing clothes―all we have to do is wait and see whose name is on the label.
