Dramatic Footage Shows Massive Indonesian Volcano Eruption, Triggering Evacuations and Tsunami Warnings

A massive volcanic eruption in Indonesia's Sangihe Islands in the North Sulawesi province this week has triggered hundreds of evacuations as well as a tsunami warning for the area. Video footage shows Mount Ruang shooting ash and lava into the sky beginning on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, images capture the lava and ash spewing from the volcano

Satellite imagery also shows the volcano's massive emissions.

Mount Ruang—a stratovolcano—is located in northern Indonesia. Its last major eruption was in 2002, when plumes of ash and lava reached up to 17 miles, according to The New York Times.
