Drake men's basketball notches road victory at Belmont

The Drake men's basketball team beat Belmont 79-61 in a Missouri Valley Conference game Sunday in Nashville, Tenn. The Bulldogs won by a comfortable margin despite the absence of leading scorer Tucker DeVries.

DeVries, a sophomore, did not make the trip to Nashville. He was hospitalized Tuesday night after the Indiana State game with an infection on his elbow. The Waukee alum was released from the hospital Sunday and continues to progress as he recovers from the infection.

Garrett Sturtz became Drake's career rebounds leader Sunday when he grabbed his 855th board, surpassing Melvin Mathis' record. He finished with six rebounds to go with 16 points. Roman Penn led Drake with 18 points, and Darnell Brodie added 15.

Drake improved to 17-6 overall and 8-4 in the Valley. Belmont fell to 16-7 and 9-3.
