Drag City Records Now Streaming on Spotify and Tidal

Ty Segall, Bill Callahan, and Silver Jews streaming on all major platforms; Joanna Newsom still off Spotify

Independent label Drag City notoriously kept their releases off major streaming services until they finally moved the majority of their catalog over to Apple Music last year. Now, the majority of the label’s discography is available on Spotify, Tidal, and Google Play. Albums from Smog, Ty Segall, Silver Jews, Bill Callahan, and other Drag City artists are available on those services. Joanna Newsom’s records are notably available on Apple Music, Tidal, and Google Play, but not Spotify. (Newsom once said that Spotify is the “banana of the music industry,” and she detests bananas.) Most records by Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Jim O'Rourke are unavailable to stream on any platform. Pitchfork has reached out to Drag City representatives for more information.

It’s worth noting that Fat Possum Records now handles streaming distribution of Royal Trux’s records that were originally released by Drag City.
