Dr. Howie Gunby named new superintendent of Lincoln Co. Schools

LINCOLN COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – According Lincoln County Schools, Dr. Howie Gunby has been named superintendent of Lincoln County Schools in a called meeting of the school board on Thursday, April 18th.

Dr. Gunby has served multiple roles within the Lincoln County School District throughout the past 15 years.

Most recently, he was named the Associate Superintendent of Federal Programs and Special Services for Lincoln County Schools beginning in 2020. Before that, he was the Principal of Lincoln County High School from 2011 until 2020 and was the Assistant Principal at the middle school from 2009 until 2011.

Prior to that, he was the Executive Director of Adult Education at Augusta Technical College for almost seven years, receiving his Doctor of Education in Occupational Studies from the University of Georgia in 2012.  He has also served as Augusta Technical College’s Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2021 to 2022 and still remains on the Board of Directors representing Lincoln County.

In addition to being the Assistant Superintendent during the past four years, Dr. Gunby has also held the position of the school district’s Special Services Director, the Gifted Coordinator, and the Title I and Title V Director.

The board voted unanimously Thursday night to give Dr. Gunby a 2-year contract, and he officially begins his position as the superintendent on July 1st.
