TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say the driver of an SUV that overturned while being followed by Border Patrol agents survived the weekend crash in southeastern Arizona that killed five people.
Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves says the driver is among the 15 people hurt when the Chevrolet crashed Saturday night while exiting Interstate 10 east of Tucson.
The driver's identity is not immediately available.
Graves says none of the people in the vehicle had identification but that investigators believe the passengers are from Mexico and Guatemala.
The Border Patrol says agents tried unsuccessfully to stop the vehicle as it traveled west on I-10.
According to DPS, the Border Patrol agents were about a mile behind the SUV when the accident occurred on the off-ramp to State Route 83.
