Dozens of people with disabilities catch waves for the Adaptive Wheel to Surf event

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)– More than 50 people with disabilities hit the waves Saturday in North Myrtle Beach.

It was the Adaptive Surf Project’s Wheel to Surf event, and six teams of surfers spent the day in the Atlantic Ocean near Cherry Grove Pier.

Hundreds more were there to cheer on all the excitement.

“This is just an opportunity for people to help others, which is a human need. And also for people who need some help to get out in the water and surf, do something thrilling and exciting, and a little dangerous,” project director Luke Sharp said.

If you missed out today, there are various opportunities to catch another wheel to surf event, the next one on the Grand Strand will be down in Surfside in September.
