A dozen shows highlight Fort Worth Bass Performance Hall’s biggest Broadway season

The words “bigger and better than ever” are always an attention grabber, but perhaps nowhere more than in the world of show business.

And that’s what the folks at Performing Arts Fort Worth are promising with their 2024-25 Broadway at the Bass Presented by PNC Bank series. When the new season begins in August, it will feature a dozen shows running through early August of 2025.

This is what happens when you have a successful run of almost a decade and a half, said Jason Wise, the senior vice president of operations for Performing Arts Fort Worth. The organization began bringing touring Broadway shows to Bass Performance Hall in the 2010-11 season and it has resulted in record attendance.

“As Fort Worth continues to grow and welcome new residents, so, too, has the Broadway at the Bass Series presented by PNC Bank,” Wise said. “We are excited about the continued growth and attracting new audiences, especially as Broadway continues to expand in the array of shows being offered direct from Broadway in New York and exclusive to touring.

“We also have a loyal patron base that is excited to experience the magic of touring Broadway at Bass Hall.”

Before the 2024-25 season, the Broadway at the Bass series has featured up to eight shows on the season ticket package with the potential for up to three season add-ons. The coming season will feature nine shows on the season ticket package with three season add-ons — which have already been added to the schedule, making a total of a dozen shows.

Bringing Jubilee on board

In recent years Performing Arts Fort Worth has teamed with Jubilee Theatre to present a show at Bass Hall. This year, it will be “Sister Act” Aug. 15-18.

As the industry was planning to reopen and rebound from the 18-month closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, Performing Arts President and CEO Dione Kennedy had a conversation with the late Christie Howard, then managing director of Jubilee Theatre. Jubilee was looking for a larger space to present its production of “Southern Boys” and Performing Arts Fort Worth was looking for an opportunity to present socially distanced performances as part of Bass Hall’s reopening plans.

That initial conversation led to Jubilee Theatre helping officially reopen Bass Hall in August of 2021. The experience went so well that Performing Arts Fort Worth asked Jubilee to present their production of “Dreamgirls” at Bass Hall in August of 2022, and now they are back this year.

“We are so excited to finally pull back the curtain on what is undoubtedly our biggest season of Broadway yet,” Kennedy said. “With a record number of 12 shows, this incredible 2024-2025 lineup has fresh revivals, original tales, and showstoppers direct from Broadway.

“We are grateful to all of our sponsors, patrons and community for their continued support, allowing us to bring such a large and diverse selection of shows with so much representation to Fort Worth.”

2024-25 Shows

The season begins this fall with the Tony Award-winning revival of Stephen Sondheim’s groundbreaking musical comedy “Company” in early October, followed by “Beetlejuice,” the Broadway smash hit musical based on the Tim Burton movie classic.

Then, it’s time to say “Hellooooo” to the musical story of everyone’s favorite Scottish nanny, “Mrs. Doubtfire.” Coming just in time for Valentine’s is “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg — the Life and Times of The Temptations.” Next March, the ultimate whodunit game comes to life on stage with “Clue.”

A rare look at the creative mind and collaborative spirit of Michael Jackson comes to the stage when “MJ” makes its Fort Worth premiere in May. Then, raise a glass to Baz Luhrmann’s revolutionary work remixed for the stage with Moulin Rouge! The Musical” in June.

In July, ease on down the road when the heavily anticipated revival of “The Wiz” takes the stage, followed by the farm-to-fable original musical “Shucked,” from award-winning country music songwriters Brandy Clark and Mineral Wells native Shane McAnally.

Two popular shows from seasons past will also make a return. “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical” returns to the Hall in late November for the first time since 2013. Also, “Les Miserables,” billed as the world’s most popular, will make a triumphant return next March for the first time since 2019.

Long-time support

Kennedy said the expanded schedule is a direct result of the history of support for the series throughout North Texas.

“Fort Worth residents have long supported the arts, and the success of the Broadway at the Bass series follows in that Fort Worth tradition,” Kennedy said. “The strength of the community support has allowed us to program our largest Broadway season in Bass Hall’s history. The theater scene in North Texas is vibrant and features a wide array of offerings. We’re honored to play our role in providing first-class touring Broadway to Fort Worth audiences.”

Performing Arts Fort Worth officials anticipate welcoming over 150,000 patrons during the 2024-2025 Broadway at the Bass season. They also note that since its inception, the series has welcomed over 2.25 million patrons to Bass Hall.
