Downtown Lufkin improvement project to finish late Summer

LUFKIN, Texas (KETK) — The Lufkin Forward Downtown Improvement Project is set to begin within the next two weeks to improve the downtown area.

According to a release from the City of Lufkin, the project aims at enhancing infrastructure, accessibility and appeal for residents and visitors.

The Lufkin City Council awarded the project to Langston Construction on Tuesday with a guaranteed maximum price of $2.31 million.

The project will include:

  • Sidewalk Enhancement: People can expect improvements along First Street, E. Shepherd Avenue and Lufkin Avenue providing accessibility for pedestrians by repairing and widening the roads and installing ADA-compliant features.

  • Landscaping and Lighting Improvements: The project will reportedly include enhancements to landscaping and lighting for appeal and enhance safety and security and beautification efforts to increase the appeal of public spaces.

The Lufkin Economic Development Corporation Director Bob Samford said they expect the project to be completed late Summer.
