Downtown ABQ getting more e-bikes for patrols
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Bike patrols have been a key initiative to ensure Albuquerque Police Department (APD) officers can respond to community needs. Now, downtown officers are getting a few more e-bikes.
“Our community wanted increased community policing in Downtown,” ABQ Councilor Joaquín Baca (District 2) said in a press release. “We also want fast response times to our calls when we need police. Bicycle police patrols have a proven record of providing officer visibility without affecting response times to dispatched calls in an often-congested area.”

APD has been using RECON Interceptor Power Cycles to access areas congested areas. Now, the department has gotten two more bikes for downtown policing. The electric-powered bikes can reach 30 miles per hour and go around 50 miles on a single charge, the city says.
“The response from residents and businesses downtown has been extremely positive,” APD Downtown Substation Deputy Commander Jose Sanchez said in a press release. “Our bike patrol officers can maneuver better with the Power Bikes during high traffic periods and special events.”
