Downed power lines cause small fires in Manitou Springs

(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — The Manitou Springs Fire Department (MSFD) responded Monday morning to downed power lines on Crystal Park Road that were actively arcing and caused several small fires, all of which were quickly handled by first responders.

According to MSFD, its agency and Crystal Park Fire Department (CPFD) responded shortly after 6 a.m. on Monday, May 6 to reports of downed power lines on Crystal Park Road south of Manitou Springs. When crews arrived at the park, MSFD said they found the power lines were actively arcing and blocking the road.

While crews were on scene, the power lines sparked several small fires that spread slowly up the rocky terrain and steep hills. Colorado Springs Utilities (Springs Utilities) responded and was unable to safely access the pole to shut the line down, and the decision was made to discontinue power to Crystal Park.
