Dover woman facing theft charge, accused of stealing nearly $200K from Strasburg church

NEW PHILADELPHIA ‒ A Dover woman is accused of stealing $196,422 from St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg.

The aggravated theft charge against former church employee Jodi A. Davis, 57, is outlined in a bill of information filed in Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court. A bill of information skips the grand jury process and usually signals a defendant is cooperating with the prosecution.

Church council President Kathy Osler said the church received an insurance settlement for $165,498 in losses from the theft. St. John's is seeking restitution through the court for $30,924 in losses not covered by insurance.

The bill of information alleges the theft occurred between Sept. 30, 2009, and March 19, 2021.

"The past 19 months have been difficult for all of us," Osler said. "We look forward to being able to put this in the past and move forward into the future God has for us."

Efforts to reach Davis were unsuccessful. No attorney for her was listed in court records.
