HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – The Pennsylvania State Senate Ethics Committee will not investigate State Senator Doug Mastriano (R-Adams/Franklin) for his connections to the events on January 6, 2021.

State Senator Art Haywood (D-Montgomery/Philadelphia) had asked the committee to investigate Mastriano earlier this year.

“(Mastriano) was part of a large, angry, armed, violent mob that was assembled to the Capitol for the purpose of overturning the election,” alleged Haywood in early January 2024.

However, on March 7 Haywood told reporters he was notified that the Ethics Committee would not be investigating Mastriano for “his activities to spread a lie and disinformation” following the 2020 election.

“I am very disappointed that the Ethics Committee reached a conclusion that no investigation was going to happen, and it is a terrible statement in my opinion about the body,” said Haywood.

Mastriano had previously called Haywood’s ethics complaint a “partisan PR stunt.”

Mastriano had organized a November hearing in Gettysburg on false 2020 election fraud claims, a meeting where President Donald Trump spoke by phone. Later that day, Mastriano and fellow supporters went to the White House, but Mastriano tested positive for COVID-19 and was not allowed to meet with Trump.

Mastriano was in Washington D.C. on January 6 but has previously stated that he did not enter the Capitol or go beyond police lines. He’s also previously said “when it was apparent that this was no longer a peaceful protest, my wife and I left the area.”

Mastriano’s attorney Timothy C. Parlatore told the U.S. House January 6 committee in 2022 that the State Senator informed the FBI that he did not know about a planned insurrection or any coordination behind the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

“He previously was approached and sat for a voluntary interview with the FBI and told them the truth about everything that happened that day,” Parlatore said. ”The FBI cleared him.”

abc27 reached out to Mastriano’s office on Thursday afternoon for comment but has not heard back at this time.
