Police said the male victim was outside when a car in the area started shooting and struck him. While shots rang out, the second victim, a woman, came outside and was also struck.

Both victims were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to KCPD.

Although the event happened only .2 miles from Garfield Elementary, it did not impact school hours, administration or students.

Kansas City Public Schools told FOX4 the shooting took place before the morning drop-off time and did not cause a lockdown. However, law enforcement and KCPS did go on-site at the school to help direct parents.
