Dothan commissioner responds to petition calling for his removal

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A petition is now circulating in the Circle City calling for the immediate resignation of Commissioner Kevin Dorsey.

The petition was started by the same Dothan resident who started the petition to reinstate City Manager Kevin Cowper.

The petition claims Dorsey has tax liens, alleging two of them were in 2017, which totaled $10,000. It says a tax lien violates the city ordinance, which should make Dorsey ineligible to be elected yet he’s been re-elected three times.

Dorsey was one of four commissioners who voted not to extend City Manager Kevin Cowper’s contract.

“Unfortunately, it took me back and I don’t owe anyone of some 20 years ago,” Dorsey said. “It’s a big witch hunt which is a damn shame out of all the things that are going on right now in our community that an individual would pick this and we all know what it’s all about. I will tell my citizens this is a witch hunt and I am going to get to the bottom of this and find out what’s going on, but it’s not going to stop me from what I do to help people on a day-to-day basis.”

Dorsey says it’s not the first time he has been under scrutiny or even received threats, but he says he’s accessible to anyone who wants to question him.
