Dothan City Manager loses chance for job in Destin while facing possible oust from the city

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan City Manager at risk of losing his position in the Circle City lost his other opportunity on the coast Monday night.

Kevin Cowper was up for a job as the City Manager in Destin, Florida. However, the Destin City Council voted against Cowper and another candidate, instead choosing to hire internally.

This meeting came a day before the Dothan City Comission is set to decide whether or not to renew Cowper’s contract, which expires on April 30.

Sources tell WDHN that several commissioners have been unhappy with Cowper since his hiring in 2019.

During his tenure, the Dothan government came under fire after a scandal came to light involving the city’s after-school feeding program.

Cowper was also at the forefront of the City Center Project, a so-far successful $200 million plan to revitalize Dothan’s downtown area.
