Several sports and social clubs have said they will be left without a home after the sale of their existing base.

Sheffield United announced earlier this month it had secured HSBC Sports and Social Club in Dore as the new training ground for the men's first team.

Grassroots teams which currently use the site have now been told to leave by 24 June without alternatives lined up.

HSBC and Sheffield United said they were working to find solutions for the site's users.

The club in Limb Lane features football and cricket pitches, tennis courts and a clubhouse.

Teams affected by the sale include Ecclesall Rangers Junior Football Club, which has been training at the site for 25 years.

Club chairman Martin Windle said: "We find ourselves without a site to coach our four, five and six-year-olds.

"We've been at HSBC for a good number of years, there's no opportunities for anywhere in this area to take our children."

Meanwhile, club coach Adam Anderson said no other working facilities were available nearby and sites such as Whirlow Playing Fields "aren't safe to play on".

Katy Vernon, whose children play for Ecclesall Rangers, said parents were "heartbroken" over the news.

She said: "We want the kids to enjoy themselves in a safe protected space and if they take that away from them, I don't know what they're going to do."

An HSBC spokesperson said it was working with new site owner Sheffield United as well as Sheffield City Council to help find solutions.
