A DoorDash driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing his vehicle to crash into a series of trees, killing a female passenger in the vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred at 2:45 a.m. Saturday on State Highway 20, near the South Ponderosa overcrossing west of Grass Valley.

Josiah Moncrieff, a 35-year-old Grass Valley man, was driving a DoorDash delivery in his 2007 Acura TL, along with a 35-year-old female passenger when he fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to leave the north side of the highway and strike a series of trees, according to the CHP.
