Regarding, "Choose candidates who embody democratic ideals," (March 10): Joe Wessels, who recently dropped out of the Democratic primary in Ohio's 2nd Congressional District, endorsed Republican Phil Heimlich in that race. Heimlich is competing with 10 other Republicans for the seat being vacated by the retiring Brad Wenstrup in the upcoming March 19 primary election. Heimlich is admittedly very anti-Trump. His passion, honesty, and openness regarding his anti-Trump stance may be admirable and valued by some, but it doesn't seem to be wise to make that the centerpiece of his campaign approach if he wants to be successful in the upcoming primary election, especially in Ohio's 2nd Congressional District.

A Dec. 6 Enquirer article about the 2nd District stated: "It's overwhelmingly Republican. In fact, it is the most Republican district of Ohio's 15, based on the 2020 presidential race results. President Donald Trump beat Joe Biden by about a 3-to-1 margin."

In the 2022 Republican primary election, Warren Davidson overwhelmingly defeated Heimlich by a 72.4% to 27.6 % margin in another Trump-friendly area, Ohio's 8th Congressional District.

I realize that Heimlich would have some name recognition advantage in Hamilton County, and would surely receive some votes from people in our local county, but Hamilton County is not a part of Ohio's 2nd Congressional District which includes all of Clermont, Clinton, Pike, Adams, Brown, Highland, Ross, Scioto, Pickaway, Hocking, Vinton, Jackson, Lawrence, Gallia, and Meigs counties, as well as a portion of Fayette County. It seems that the most-prized endorsement to seek would be that of Brad Wenstrup, the incumbent, who has been very popular in that district for many years.

I may be wrong, but I can't see Heimlich getting the support he needs to win the primary in Ohio's most Trump-friendly district.

Widespread distrust, skepticism isn't helping unite us

Recent polling has confirmed once again that not only do Americans not trust politicians, the mainstream media or our voting system, but distrust has moved far beyond that. Big Tech, Big Pharma and others have now been added to the list. When the only thing we truly believe in is our own personal relationships, that suggests that as a society we're moving in the wrong direction. I don't have a solution to the problem, but I do know that this widespread skepticism certainly isn't helping us come back together again as a nation.
