We don't need Ilhan Omar to 'clarify' her typically antisemitic, anti-American comments

House Democrats have asked Rep. Ilhan Omar to “clarify” her recent comments comparing Israel and the United States to Hamas and the Taliban. What a laugh — they must have missed the last few years of Omar's antics, through which she has made her views abundantly clear.

Omar started this debacle by saying that “we must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity. We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban.”

A group of 12 Jewish Democrats then issued a weak denunciation of this attempt to draw a moral equivalence between the U.S. and Israeli governments and terrorist groups that murder civilians on purpose. This all ended with them urging Omar to “clarify” her remarks.

She has since gone into the predictable victim monologue, accusing her colleagues of peddling “islamophobic tropes.” And why shouldn’t she? Democrats have coddled her during every controversy, enabling her to spout antisemitism with impunity. Even now, the best that House Democrats can offer is a meek request for her to clarify her comments.

But Omar has made her views crystal clear: She can be counted on to parrot Hamas propaganda. She has repeatedly peddled antisemitic tropes. She holds Israel to a different standard than countries that are clear human rights abusers, such as China, Iran, and Turkey. She has said that racism is part of the foundation of U.S. power. She continuously and falsely accuses Israel of apartheid and laments that Israel can protect its citizens from indiscriminate missile attacks using the Iron Dome missile defense system.

According to Punchbowl News, a number of fellow Democrats think Omar is an antisemite. So they aren’t stupid — they're just cowards who won't speak up. Their cowardice has emboldened Omar to continue to spew antisemitism. Their pathetic response is almost worse than saying nothing at all. It permits "progressives" to drown out denunciations of her antisemitism by shouting that Omar is the real victim.

Not all Democrats are complete cowards in the face of antisemitism. California Rep. Brad Sherman showed how easy it is to condemn Omar and her comments in his own, harsher statement. “It’s not news that Ilhan Omar would make outrageous and clearly false statements about America and Israel. What’s newsworthy is that she admits Hamas is guilty of ‘unthinkable atrocities,’” Sherman said. “It’s time for all of Israel’s detractors to condemn Hamas. And it’s time for all those of good will to reject any moral equivalency between the U.S. and Israel on one hand, and Hamas and the Taliban on the other.”

It really is that simple. Omar has told us exactly who she is. Democrats can take a real stand against her, as Sherman did in his statement, or they can roll over once again to appease the identity politics fanatics they have created, who only care that Omar is a Muslim woman and will justify every noxious statement she utters.
