Donations accepted for Coshocton Opportunity School's fourth annual Dress Up Main Street
COSHOCTON − The Coshocton Opportunity School is planning its fourth annual Dress Up Main Street project.
Needed donations include coats, hats, gloves, scarves and socks. New or clean and gently used items can be dropped off from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday to Wednesday at Coshocton High School.
Students from the Opportunity School will hang bagged items from trees lining Main Street in Downtown Coshocton starting at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 12. Anyone in need will be able to take the items beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Last year, 46 students hung 179 coats on trees along Main Street and around the Coshocton Court Square.
The idea came from paraprofessional Dianna McKee who saw a Facebook post where coats for the needy were put on trees in Europe with notes about their previous use. She said they are always looking for ways the students can give back and this felt like a unique project.
Founded in 2006, the Coshocton Opportunity School is a community school designed to meet the needs of at-risk students ages 16 to 21. It provides dropouts and other non-traditional students a chance to attain their high school diplomas. Along with standard curriculum, the school also offers classes relating to life skills, parenting, relationship building and more for life after high school.
