Donald Trump Says UN Crowd Wasn't Laughing At Him, But With Him

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that United Nations delegates were laughing with him, not at him, after he boasted about himself during a speech to the General Assembly.

Trump claimed his administration was one of the most successful in U.S. history in his remarks at the U.N. on Tuesday, which drew laughter from the gathered diplomats. But at a Wednesday press conference, the president said it was “fake news” that the crowd was laughing at him.

“They weren’t laughing at me, they were laughing with me. We were having fun,” Trump said on Wednesday.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley also tried to brush away the incident on Wednesday morning while speaking with “Fox & Friends.” Haley insisted that the crowd was amused by his “honesty.”

“They love that he’s honest with them and they’ve never seen anything like it, so there’s respect there,” Haley said. “I saw that the media was trying to make it something disrespectful. That’s not what it was ― they love to be with him.”
