Donald Trump forced to part ways with Tim Tebow Broncos helmet as part of charity scandal

President Donald Trump is facing a lot of heat.

This is not news.

What is news is that Tim Tebow is involved. OK, not Tebow himself. But Tebow memorabilia is at the center of the latest Trump scandal involving his personal charity, the Donald J. Trump Foundation.

Trump shuts down charity, gives up Tebow helmet

Trump agreed on Tuesday to shut down the charity as the New York State attorney general’s office alleges that he used the Trump Foundation illegally to his own personal and political benefit.

As part of the agreement, the foundation’s remaining $1.75 million and additional assets will be liquidated to other charities at the discretion of New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood and a state judge, according to the Washington Post.

Tebow helmet part of charity’s remaining assets

Among those assets are two large portraits of Trump and a Denver Broncos helmet autographed by Tim Tebow that Trump spent $12,000 of Trump Foundation money on at a 2012 auction.

Why would a charity need an autographed Tebow helmet from his days as the Broncos quarterback? Who knows?

To be clear. Trump bid on the helmet at an auction, then paid for it with a check from his charity, using money raised from donors.

Trump charity accused of acting illegally in election

The lawsuit against the Trump Foundation alleges “persistently illegal conduct” from the charity founded in 1987 as Underwood seeks an additional $2.8 million in financial restitution, according to the Post.

The charity was also illegally wrapped up in Trump’s 2016 election campaign according to the lawsuit.

Underwood’s investigation alleges “a shocking pattern of illegality involving the Trump Foundation — including unlawful coordination with the Trump presidential campaign, repeated and willful self-dealing, and much more.”

So Trump has lost his prized Tim Tebow helmet. But that appears to be the least of his problems.
